Her story is about domestic violence which
she experienced while staying with her common law husband. A fight
started over money which was becoming a problem in the house since
the man did not want to spend his money on anything so she confronted
the husband over the issue and told him that she was leaving him.
Alayika was beaten severely to the extend of being
hospitalized for three months. She at one time thought of committing
suicide because of the scars which she now possesses on her arms
and the forehead. Alayika received counseling from the Musasa project.
The physical abuse has left her with difficulties
in cooking her food and she is on medication for persistent headaches.
Alayika is a member of E-Knowledge for Women in Southern
Africa (EKOWISA) and now goes around telling other people of the
dangers of Domestic Violence in the hope of changing the lives of
many who are facing these challenges.
