Deliwe Chiriseri is living positively with HIV/AIDS.
Deliwe got pregnant by her boyfriend who was a teacher and decided
to elope and live with him but things did not go well for her because
her parents wanted lobola from their son in-law. She was taken by
her parents and lived with them for seven months but her partner
did not bring the required lobola.
Deliwe decided to return to her husband and within
two months she fell pregnant for the second time. Her husband became
ill and she also became ill whilst pregnant but she thought that
it was her pregnancy which was causing the illness.
Her husband secretly went for HIV testing and tested
positive but did not tell his wife. Deliwe’s husband later told
her he was HIV positive and encouraged her to go for counseling. Deliwe
tested HIV positive and she delivered her baby under PPTCT programme
but did not disclose her status to any of her family members except
her twin sister.
Now she is a member of the E-Knowledge for Women
in Southern Africa (EKOWISA) Community ICT Project and she goes
around sharing her experiences with those who are in a similar situation.
She is staying with her husband and her two HIV negative children.
