Joao Zangaroti is living positively with HIV/AIDS.
Joao was married to his first wife who died after their divorce.
He married a second wife who continuously fell ill and this prompted
Joao to go for HIV/AIDS testing.
He was diagnosed HIV positive but could not believe
or accept the result. He did not disclose his status to anyone even
his second wife for fear of being stigmatized and discriminated
although he was continuously ill which made everyone think he was
bewitched and needed to be cleansed.
Joao went for cleansing processes yet he knew his
HIV status. His second wife died of meningitis which prompted him
to get tested again but the diagnosis did not change.
He married his third wife who had four miscarriages
but they got divorced. He feels guilty of spreading the disease
to his wives and children. Joao is now married to his fourth wife
who is HIV positive and has a 3 year old girl who was delivered
on the prevention of parent to child transmission (PPCT).
