Simon Tambudzai was a perpetrator of domestic
violence to his wife and to his children. Before he got married
he drank alcohol and enjoyed a carefree living.
This did not stop when he got married such that he
would not sleep at his home and sometimes would come home very late.
This led to quarrels between him and his wife and eventually he
would beat up his wife. He verbally abused his wife, telling her
that she should not talk back to him because he had paid lobola
to her parents.
As for the children he would wake then up when
he came home late and sometimes would beat them up to prove that he
was the father of the house and could do whatever he felt like doing.
The violence stopped after the visit by Padare Men’s Forum on
Gender to his workplace and this changed his life for the better.
He is now educating other men on how to prevent
Domestic Violence and to cope with the situation. He is also going
around teaching people on ways to prevent HIV/AIDS. He is now living
well with his wife and children and always includes his wife in
decision making processes in the house. Simon no longer abuses his
wife and children like before.
